12 Jul Rick Dempsey and Firefly Vodka
Sips of the Week
Firefly Original Sweet Tea Vodka, $20.99
Created in a small still on Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina, Firefly became the world’s first hand-crafted sweet tea flavored vodka. Keeping true to its Southern roots, Firefly is distilled four times, infused with tea grown on a plantation five miles from the distillery and blended with real Louisiana sugar cane. It tastes just like real sweet tea, but with an even sweeter kick! Imitators try to achieve the taste of tea with artificial flavors and you will instantly know the difference with one sip. The real stuff just tastes better!

Scott Newitt Of Firefly Vodka
Scott’s nickname is “The Firefly Guy.” That should give you an idea of how passionate he is about Firefly. Born and raised in Louisiana’s Honey Island Swamp, Scott is an LSU graduate, very proud of his southern roots, and was committed to creating a true southern product. “We used to drink sweet tea like milk when I was a kid,” Scott said. “It doesn’t get more southern than sweet tea.” Scott also recalled capturing fireflies in mason jars on hot summer evenings and always felt like they were magical creatures. When Scott told Jim “let’s make some southern spirit”, they had no idea how overwhelming the response to Firefly would be. Scott lives in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina with his wife, Trish, and their kids—Drew, Peter, and Patsy. In his spare time, which there isn’t much of these days, he plays drums in the 17 South Bluegrass Band.
