Sips of the Week
Schmitt Söhne Eiswein, Pfalz, Germany $19.99
Winemaker’s Notes: Eiswein (ice wine) is produced from grapes harvested and pressed while frozen (not warmer than 20° F) to concentrate sugar, acidity and extract. It is truly a unique and complex dessert wine with an intense concentration of fruits and hints of honey, caramel and raisins. Eiswein is the crowning jewel of German viticulture.
Ch. Maydie Tannat Dessert, Southwest France $27.99
Winemaker’s Notes: This sweet wine from Southwestern France is made with hand-picked Tannat grapes allowed to semi-dry on the vine. The wine is rich, and dense, with ample black currant and black cherry fruit framed by notes of chocolate and spice cake. Complex and medium sweet, this would be a great match with anything made from dark chocolate.

Baltimore native Duff Goldman, founder of Charm City Cakes, aka Ace of Cakes joined us share some holiday baking tips and to talk about his new projects on the west coast including Charm City Cakes West and Duff’s Cake Mix, a do-it-yourself cake shop in the heart of Hollywood.
Chef Duff has been cooking since the age of four, when his Mom caught him in the kitchen watching Chef Tell and swinging around a meat cleaver. Following several appearances on its cake competition Challenge series, in 2006, Food Network tapped Chef Duff and his fellow cake baking artists at Charm City Cakes to star in Ace of Cakes. After six years and ten seasons, the show is still wildly popular not only in reruns, but in over 40 countries worldwide.
