15 Jun Bodega Numanthia
Featured Interview
This week Laurie talked wine with Manuel Louzada, Estate Director at Bodega Numanthia located in the Toro region of Northwest Spain. After almost 10 years in Argentina, where Manuel Louzada had the opportunity to elaborate high quality sparkling and still wines for Bodegas Chandon, he was offered a new challenge within Estates & Wines: Manuel has been involved in the 2008 harvest at Bodega Numanthia in the heart of the Toro region and he fully took over the management of the winery in May 2009.
What we tasted:
Numanthia $50
Termanthia $150
Winemaker’s Notes: On the palate, the wine is elegant and velvety, where firm and silky tannins are perfectly balanced giving a grand structure and weight. There is a progressive explosion of delicate, concentrated aromas, a profound evolution where everything enjoyed on the nose come forward again. Red and black berries, cacao and floral notes fill the mouth, leading to a lingering, complex finish with hints of spice, minerals and toasted notes.
Termes $20
Winemaker’s Notes: The mouthfeel is balanced and vibrant with a predominance of fruit flavors. A lively and intense attack is followed by an explosion of black cherry and fresh plums. The finish is long and persistent with notes of cacao and mocha.
