Sips of the Week

Sebastien Marquet, winemaker at Doukènie Winery joined us with his new releases for a fun and informative tasting. We learned all about how he began his training as a winemaker at the wee age of 13 and now uses that wealth of knowledge to craft world class wines in Virginia.

In studio with Isabelle & Sebastien Marquet of Doukenie Winery

2011 Sauvignon Blanc, Loudoun County, Virginia
The very cold and slow stainless steel fermentation developed in Doukénie Sauvignon Blanc is a beautiful quantity of grapefruit, citrus and herbaceous flavors of chamomile and clover. $24 for Non-Members, $20 Members

2009 “Le Vin Rouge” Loudoun County, Virginia  This very elegant and delicate red wine is produced with 100% grapes from Virginia. The expressive aromas of red berries, and black currant offer a beautiful dimension for your palate followed by light port, plum, and oak flavors. The body is structured and very well-balanced. The tannins are smooth, offering a round finish that tempts you to take another sip. $24 for Non-Members, $20 Members

2009 “Dionysus” Red (100% Merlot), Loudoun County, Virginia
Dionysus was the god of the Grape Harvest, wine making and wine in Greek Mythology. The dark red purple color is produced with 100% Merlot from block number 1 of Doukénie Winery Estate. With a very earthy and rich bouquet it divulges a complexity of aromas: tobacco, caramel, coffee, coconut, cherry, berries and black currant. This is an extremely balanced full-bodied wine, that gives a very velvety sensation. It’s long and jammy finish leaves you with beautiful mouth-feel! $59 Non-Members, $50 Members
