Laurie takes a tasty field trip to Lyon Distilling in St. Michaels, MD where she talks with Ben Lyon about starting a distillery, the moonshine craze and how you can taste his handcrafted rum! Ben Lyon and Jamie Windon created Lyon Distilling to produce hand-crafted spirits by transforming raw ingredients (molasses, sugar, local grains) into splendid liquor (rum, corn whiskey, rye whiskey) step by step, in very small batches, using traditional pot stills made in Kentucky. Laurie tasted the Lyon Distilling White Rum (90 proof) , Dark Rum (90 proof) both made from a mix of Molasses and Cane Sugar as well as their Corn Whiskey (100 proof) made with a touch of rye to add depth and flavor.
