Laurie at Jordan Vineyards with Executive Chef Todd Knoll and his wife Nitsa.

This week Laurie interviewed Jordan Vineyards Executive Chef Todd Knoll on location at the winery in Healdsburg, CA to learn more about the culinary program. Born into a military family in 1969, Executive Chef Todd Knoll was raised in Hawaii and draws inspiration from his childhood home, as well as Asia, when creating menus for the Jordan dining room. Jordan’s house style — balanced wines with bright fruit, soft tannins, vibrant acidity and low alcohol — allows Chef Knoll to push the envelope with counter-intuitive ingredient selections. His creative recipes are designed around the seasonal produce harvested from our garden and orchard, located on a hillside behind the Jordan kitchen.

Laurie also stopped by the critically acclaimed restaurant Dry Creek Kitchen to interview Wine Director Courtney Humiston about her role in creating the wine list and some of the more interesting wines of the Sonoma Valley. Dry Creek Kitchen’s wine program, under the direction of Courtney Humiston, reflects the diversity of Sonoma County — from the legendary Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast to the powerful Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley and the storied Zinfandels of Dry Creek. With more than 500 selections, the list includes both sought-after wines from classic producers as well as lesser-known wines from up-and-coming winemakers, unusual varieties and emerging appellations.
